Outside of the Classroom

Our impressive extra-curricular programme is a big part of every pupil’s time at school. We encourage all children to actively take part in our additional activities. So whether it's taking part in gardening club, learning to play an instrument or joining the annual residential trip away, time spent away from desks is designed to build resilience and confidence.

In addition to the extra-curricular programme the school is also incredibly engaged with the local communities charities and causes. Mansfield Woodhouse is an incredibly well-knit community and we are proud to have made a continuous contribution to it since being established in the community. As part of your child's time with us they will also be involved in our charity work, which includes fundraising and volunteering.

All children have the opportunity to get involved with music as part of the taught curriculum. However, we also offer private music tuition for children seeking it. From Year 1, children can take Piano with Mrs Loizias and from Year 2 Guitar with Mr Wardhaugh. If you would like to book private music tuition please speak to the staff. We also have a School Choir which practices at lunch times. Key Stage 2 children are welcome to join the choir which performs at both school and community events.

Performing Arts

At Saville House School one of our strengths lie in the performing arts and is an area of school life that many of our pupils are actively involved in throughout their time with us.

We offer the opportunity for all children to get involved in the performing arts and our annual productions, which in the past have included Mary Poppins, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Cinderella. We also offer regular trips to the theatre, with the Mansfield Palace Theatre, Nottingham Play House and Royal Concert Hall all within easy reach.

Forest School

We are very proud of our forest school which includes a large aquarium stocked with native fresh water fish, a large green house and alongside raised vegetable plots.  We also have a chicken coupe populated with rescued battery hens and our pupils love collecting the eggs for our 5 star rated school kitchen so the school chef to make wonderful cakes with them.

Sport and Swimming

Playing sport is an important part of life at Saville House School and all children are encouraged to participate. Dance classes are scheduled alongside weekly swimming and sports that include football, hockey and tag-rugby. Inter-school matches are also planned, both home and away, and we always encourage parents to come and spectate where possible. The School also offers a morning exercise routine called 'The Golden Mile' to encourage the children to keep active and fit. Weekly swimming lessons also take place at local Rebecca Adlington Swimming Centre where children work towards awards and badges.

Clubs and Societies

We have a wide variety of Clubs and Societies, taking place during lunch and after school. There is a club for everyone. If there isn't one that interests a pupil we encourage them to start a club of their own, recruiting a member of staff to facilitate the club and fellow pupils to make it a success.

Residential Trips

Residential Trips are a great way to encourage independence and give our pupils the opportunity to try activities totally out of their comfort zone. Every year a 1 week residential trip is planned to either Kingswood or PGL which is open to children in Year 4 and above. Previous Residential Trips have taken the pupils to Wales, Swindon and the Lake District.

Our local Church is St Edmund's Church in Mansfield Woodhouse and is just a 5 minute walk from the school. We have a long-standing partnership with the Parish Church and take part in their events, as well as hosting our own Easter Service, Harvest Festival and Christmas Carol Concert at the Church. Parents are always very welcome to join us at these events. Whilst we practice the Church of England religion at the School we welcome families from all religions and all pupils learn about these during their Religious Studies lessons.
